CHANGING TIDES by Sarah Darlington
"Nate West. Hollywood bad-boy. Television megastar. Womanizer. Basically everything I hate about the male species rolled into one handsome package. And yet…I want him."
Ellie Turner is a lesbian. She has tattoos, short hair, and a ‘don’t-mess-with-me-attitude.’ She knows who she is, loves who she is, and couldn’t care less what the rest of the world thinks of her. And since she has the most kick-ass best friend on the planet, Noah Clark, even when family drama gets in the way, nothing can offset her happy-go-lucky demeanor.
Until television star Nate West comes along. All thick muscle and alpha-male testosterone. When Ellie meets him on an airplane the only thing Nate West should be good for is a brand new profile picture on Facebook. Right? Wrong. Turns out he’s good for so much more.
This man is going to flip everything Ellie thought she knew about herself upside down.
***NA Romance. This novel is the second book in the Kill Devil Hills series, however it can be read as a standalone. Recommended for 18+
My Review: (ARC provided)
4-4.5 stars!
When I read Kill Devil Hills I wanted a story about Ellie so bad. I fell in love with her and her feisty attitude. Now, being honest I was a little skeptical when I read the synopsis because I liked her being a lesbian I thought it was what made her character and to me I didn't or couldn't see her changing. Well Sarah proved me me wrong, she wrote it so well that I really felt like I was Ellie's friend getting a glimpse at her emotions and her confusion. I'm a true believer that sometimes the heart wants what it wants male or female. We got to see a side of Ellie that was insecure and vulnerable and the poor girl held a lot for people she loved. She was such a sweet person not wanting to hurt or disrupt the family keeping secrets that shouldn't be hers to keep.
From the beginning of this book when we first meet Nate I loved him and I instantly loved Ellie and Nate's chemistry and banter. Nate wanted love, as much as he didn't want to admit it. He wasn't the stereotypical bad boy that sleeps with everyone, yes he had his fun but he wanted more...
Nate's love is a little insta but it worked, it worked for his character. He was even second guessing himself. Ellie's reluctance worked too, she knew there was something there but she held back. Imagine going from being with girls and only girls to a big hunk of a man and famous to boot!
I thought getting dual POV's in this book was essential, I think as a reader we needed to know what was going on in both of their heads. We even get a POV from Noah which was a nice surprise.
So even though I was a little reluctant at first for Ellie to "change tides" it worked and was explained very well in the story. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I recommend!
