I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I was delightfully surprised. Gigi is a new author for me, but I found her writing beautifully lyrical and this a wonderful story. Grace's life can be split in two, the before and the after. Grace has taken to life at the convent, her safe haven is The Grotto and her painting, what more could she want? Ten years later when she is told it’s time to leave, to regain her freedom she’s not sure she is ready. Little does she know just how much freedom she will gain when Phoenix, Nix, Hayes comes knocking. Nix has experienced his own heartache. But when his family undertakes a new mission, saving Grace, he is the first to voice his most significant concern. Totally unwilling to sacrifice the safety of his family, Nix is against going to bring Grace back to their fold. Little does he know just how upside down this sweet, innocent girl will change his life forever. I instantly fell in love with Grace. She was friendly and kind, and my heart entirely broke for her. Despite her innocence, Grace is a warrior. She is able to see beyond Nix’s ridged edges to see his heart. Nix, on the other hand, fights his attraction to Grace. But as the two are drawn together Nix can’t deny just how special Grace really is. When the past comes back, threatening to take everything Nix holds dear, there is nothing he won’t do to protect his family, especially Grace. I found this book easy to sink into and want these fantastic characters to get their happily ever after. I will warn you, the epilogue is a total cliffhanger, so if you are one of those people who can’t stand one, be prepared!
