Love On The Lake was a book that got me sucked in from the beginning. After reading Love Next Door I couldn't wait to go back to this town and read more about it and see what happens with our next couple. I was really wanting a story about Aaron and Teagan after reading it, and this story was so consuming yet not what I expected at all. I thought it would be more of a "small-town boy, rich urban girl romance" which it was, but it was way deeper than that, and Teagan isn't so rich anymore. I wouldn’t classify this as a cushy sweet romance because it has so much more. Both characters have some pretty major issues that are holding them up from being able to completely let go with the other person and have a real honest relationship.
Helena has written a new favorite H of mine, Aaron is complex but hits everything I want in a hero, I wish I could do his character justice by explaining in a review but I’m afraid I won’t. He is broody and underneath that broodiness, we see what a wonderful human he is, his compassion, his deep love for his town and the people in his life, his generosity, and of course he’s a hottie to boot. He has been through a lot and keeps it all tucked away, no one knows why or what brought it on. When Teagan comes to town she throws him for a loop with her love of life and what a good and sweet person she is. What he doesn’t know is that is all on the surface and just because she seems to love life and be happy doesn’t always mean that’s what’s going on inside.
Teagan is another complex character, at times I really wanted to strangle her, but she had a problem and did a very good job of covering it up. Teagan is a yes girl, she wants to make everyone happy and please the people around her. Everyone loves Teagan and she takes on way too much because she is such a people pleaser, so much that she is starting to make a downward spiral. Both Aaron and Teagan are hiding their true selves from each other and need to figure out that before they continue on together.
Like I said this book was deeper than I thought it would be, it deals with some major life issues and Helena does such a wonderful job writing this. She takes these issues tackles them and makes you feel warm and fuzzy, not to mention the chemistry and sexy times. I’m not ready yet to let Pearl Lake go, hint hint.
