Review...Hidden by: Catherine McKenzie

Hidden I just can't rate this book. It was given to me via Kindle First program. I don't think I would personally categorize this book in the romance genre. It was a well paced good story, it had me guessing throughout the whole book...but the epilogue totally threw me, completely.

The synopsis:

While walking home from work one evening, Jeff Manning is struck by a car and killed. Two women fall to pieces at the news: his wife, Claire, and his co-worker Tish. Reeling from her loss, Claire must comfort her grieving son as well as contend with funeral arrangements, well-meaning family members, and the arrival of Jeff’s estranged brother, who was her ex-boyfriend. Tish volunteers to attend the funeral on her company’s behalf, but only she knows the true risk of inserting herself into the wreckage of Jeff’s life.

Told through the three voices of Jeff, Tish, and Claire, Hidden explores the complexity of relationships, the repercussions of our personal choices, and the responsibilities we have to the ones we love.

There were so many good quotes in this book. There is a part in the book that Jeff and Claire's son reads a poem at his funeral and it had me in tears. I loved the multiple POV's and it was really cool reading the POV of Jeff who is dead. Loved the concept. I like the gray area of affairs...is an emotional affair just as bad as a physical one? Do we really want to know if our significant other has had an affair? Or are we better off not knowing?

Quote: "Maybe honesty isn't always the best policy. Because him telling me about it was selfish. The only person it was going to make feel any better was him. So maybe if  you make a mistake, you have to live with it by yourself, and that's how you fix it."

I can't tell you about the epilogue without spoiling the book so I'll leave you with this..I think everyone in some type of relationship should read this book it makes you look at relationships from a different perspective. This book if you are as emotional as me will make you cry and the end may make you mad. In this particular book I almost wish the author would have kept it as is without the epilogue (and I love epilogues). The reason I can't rate this book is because of that and that alone otherwise it would have been 4-5 stars. It was a well written book and had me thinking along while after I read it, to the point I had a full out conversation with my husband about it.

Quote: "I tell myself I got sucked into the happiness, the surge of the drug we seemed to make together. But was it real? Would it have survived in real life? Would it even have happened if we didn't have other lives to lead but had met each other first?"
